The aim
WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Not everything here meets it yet; what does and does not is set out below, because a page claiming full compliance without saying how it was tested is not worth much.
What has been done
- Text and background contrast checked against AA on every page
- Headings in a real hierarchy, so a screen reader can navigate by structure
- All images carry alternative text
- Layouts reflow to narrow screens without horizontal scrolling
- Text resizes without breaking the page
- Nothing in the site's meaning is carried by colour alone
The Simulator specifically
It is a card table, which makes it the hardest part of this site to use without sight.
- Colour is not load-bearing. Won, lost and pushed each carry a symbol as well as a colour, and the boxes take different border styles.
- A four-colour deck is available in settings for anyone who finds red and green hard to separate.
- Motion can be turned off - the effects toggle stops the lighting, the sparks and the shake.
- Every hand is written to a text transcript which can be copied out and read in whatever way suits you.
Known shortfalls, and what is being done about them. Two, both real, both specific:
- The Simulator is not fully operable by keyboard alone. The betting circles and the card squeeze need a pointer. Target: full keyboard operation of betting, dealing, the play/fold decision and every panel, by 31 December 2026.
- The table is not announced to screen readers as it plays. The hand transcript is readable, but the live table is not. Target: an ARIA live region announcing the deal, the decision point and the settlement, by 31 December 2026.
In the meantime, ask and we will send it another way. If any part of this site or the book is not reachable for you, email the address below and say what you need - the figures as a plain-text table, a chapter as accessible text, a description of a diagram, anything. There is no form to fill in and no need to explain why.

What changed in this version
